Why Certification is Still Relevant and Why the CSQE Stands Out

Speaker: Linda Westfall, President of the Westfall Team and Software Excellence Academy

We're turning lemons into lemonade by taking advantage of online meetings to enlist prominent non-local speakers like Linda.

Wednesday June 10, 2020

Linda Westfall explains why certifications are still so relevant NOW, why they will continue to be so into the future, and in this era of certification proliferation, why the ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) certification is the one you should consider pursuing. We will also review the major sections and topics of the ASQ CSQQE body of knowledge and give you some tips for preparing for and taking the exam.

Attendees of this presentation will learn:

  • Why ASQ Certifications are so well respected and why they should consider persuing their ASQ CSQE certification
  • What is in the ASQ CSQE Body of Knowledge and the topics covered in the exam
  • Tips for preparing for the exam and for increasing their chances of passing the CSQE Exam

Annual SQGNE elections will be held during the June meeting. Thank you to Darin Kalashian and Pratik Shah for volunteering to succeed SQGNE President Stan Wrobel and Clerk NaiYing Weigand who are retiring after jobs well done. Thanks too to incumbents Vice President Robin Goldsmith, Treasurer Barbara Wioncek, and Directors Jim Turner, Mike Arnold, and Bill Basinski who all agreed to serve another term. Special thanks to Nominating Committee Chair Ann Cultrera for once again making it all happen.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month from September through June, under normal circumstances at the offices of RSA, 174 Middlesex Turnpike, Bedford, MA 01730. We want to serve our members as best we can and intend to resume in-person meetings when the CoVid-19 danger subsides. Sorry, we haven't figured out how to distribute free Flatbread pizza through an Internet connection.

Seats are limited. Register at [this meeting was held on Zoom] to receive the login link.

Quality is everybody's job but not everybody's specialty. Regardless of your role, SQGNE helps you better understand and apply software quality to improve your job and career performance. Attending monthly meetings, reading and posting on the SQGNE LinkedIn Group, and volunteering in various SQGNE capacities all contribute to your benefit. Thanks to Darin Kalashian for sponsoring our Zoom access. In order to present programs that help you, we need you to recommend monthly presentation topics and hopefully also speakers, including yourself, and annual or meeting sponsors.

SQGNE is initiating economical, convenient online professional training, including “CSQE Exam Prep” and “A Practitioner’s Guide To Agile/Scrum Software Development”. Contact Darin Kalashian at seminars@SQGNE.org or darin@dskquality.com for more information and to discuss additional topics.

SQGNE relies on sponsors like Checkpoint Technologies, RSA, and Flatbread Pizza of Bedford to enable us to continue our 26th season as an educational and networking forum for promoting software quality professionals. We also may need to find a sponsor to host meetings next season, preferably in the Burlington/Bedford area. Please help us identify topics, speakers, and additional sponsors. Contact Robin Goldsmith at robin@gopromanagement.com.

Please donate software/quality/testing books for upcoming raffles when live meetings resume. Thanks to member Manny Jasus for donating a bunch and to Director Bill Basinski for arranging to receive some MIT library deaccessions. We can use more, since we're essentially out of what once seemed a never-ending supply.
