December  Speaker: : Robin Goldsmith:  Secret to Test Automation Value (Hint: it's NOT Automation)
In December, SQGNE past President and current Vice President, Robin Goldsmith, engaged lots of audience interaction regarding the “Secret to Test Automation Value (Hint, It’s NOT Automation)”. Participants could identify with the tendency to focus on automating at the expense of creating valuable tests which give confidence the system works. Automation can reduce costs and run more tests by speeding test execution, and especially repeating tests; but it can’t tell you what to test or how to test it well. Robin described how his low-overhead Proactive Testing™ methodology catches and prevents requirements and design defects, which are the biggest source of code issues but are not addressed by automated test tools. Proactive Testing™ includes more than 21 static testing techniques to review requirements adequacy and more than 15 ways to evaluate software design adequacy. It also uses little-known powerful dynamic testing planning and design methods which detect many ordinarily-overlooked risks early so coding avoids them. Reusable test designs can expedite automation of the most important tests. The recording is posted on the www.SQGNE.org calendar.

Grateful thanks to sponsors Checkpoint Technologies, mabl, Flatbread Pizza of Bedford, and now VMware for making SQGNE possible. Please let us know of any additional prospective sponsors.
